Listening to Mr. Arn Chorn Pond was truly moving and eye-opening. I first learned about his beyond-inspirational life story when reading Never Fall Down last year in Perspectives on Modern World History. Analyzing this book was truly one of my highlights of the year, so I am so thankful for this event because listening to him was so impactful.

Mr Arn Chorn Pond's statements on crying particularly stood with me. I have never given thought to the importance of crying for other people or truly how powerful letting out your emotions through crying can be. From a young age, the mentality that crying was a sign of weakness was instilled into my head. Proving this stigma to be wrong, Mr. Arn Chorn Pond emphasized crying’s importance as a way to release your emotions and connect with others when he mentioned that we should not be ashamed of crying because “the pain is great around the world.”

As a performing artist, I understand the importance of art, and the Cambodian Living Arts organization is beyond incredible. Through promoting a connection with art, the organization connects with Cambodia’s cultural heritage. Mr. Arn Chorn Pond’s motive that “every child in the world will pick up musical instruments not guns” is also so impactful and important. It made me realize how important Music is when we are living in a world filled with turmoil. I will forever be grateful that I got to listen to Mr. Arn Chorn Pond, and the impact of his words will stay with me.
